Teasing presents a particular challenge to adults and the children with whom they work. On the one hand, teasing can serve to bond persons together in a verbal ritual of kidding or ribbing. On the other, teasing becomes taunting and is a form of bullying and harassment. The author describes a process for helping children understand how teasing can go awry and how to prevent hurt feelings from friendly teasing.
