Aggressive youth often develop "coercive" interpersonal styles in an attempt to control their social environment. However, aggression is an interaction, involving specific actions and reactions by those living and working with these youth. Efforts to impose external behavioral control can unwittingly trigger or escalate a youth s aggression. Grounded in research on the development and dynamics of aggression, the Boys Town model targets seven critical skills for creating safe, positive treatment environments that empower these youth to change.
