The Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) program developed at Cornell University provides a model for dealing with potentially violent children and youth. The program provides staff with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to manage a child in crisis in order to bring about a "maximum amount of lasting response. " By applying the principles of the TCI training, the direct care worker can attain therapeutic control and maintain the dignity of both adult and child during the most difficult crisis experience.
