This article challenges the prevailing political and public attitudes about locking up children who hate in juvenile justice facilities. It notes the piecemeal nature of caring professional treatment and the need for holistic approaches. Three promising reforms are also discussed: information-networking systems that facilitate collaboration and coordination of services among juvenile justice stakeholders, alternatives to detention programs for status offenders, and Multisystemic Therapy. A comprehensive approach employing all three could be effective in reducing recidivism and reversing the aggressive tendencies of children who hate.
